Practical checklist

Compare Instagram competitors with a consistent checklist

Compare similar posts from relevant creators over the same period. This is a manual guide; automated Instagram competitor analysis is unavailable.

Keep the comparison fair

Public profiles show only part of the picture

You cannot recover competitor reach, saves, watch time, or audience demographics from public likes and comments.

Choose peers

Similar audience and topic

Follower count alone does not make two accounts comparable.

Compare posts

Same format and age

Separate Reels, carousels, and single-image posts.

Record a question

One idea to test

Use a pattern as a hypothesis, not proof that copying it will work.

1. Define the sample

Choose three to five relevant accounts. Record a fixed recent period, visible follower counts, and the number of posts in each format.

2. Record visible patterns

Note recurring topics, opening hooks, posting frequency, likes, and comments. Separate sponsored posts and one-off outliers from the usual pattern.

3. Choose a small experiment

Write down one idea, why it may fit your audience, and what result would make it worth repeating. Review it against your own baseline.
